Error: 1009

Postby TheLost1 » Tue Oct 30, 2012 11:03 pm

I played the demo, liked it, so i bought the full game thru GOG.com (I try and buy things from GoG whenever possible)

Next I uninstalled the demo and said NO to keeping the save game. Then restarted pc and then installed the full game.

The full version of the game installed fine and started fine the first time. I selected play game and the screen came up to select new game or import old game. I selected the new game and clicked start.

For some unknown reason it took me back to where I was in the demo and did not start a new game. This seems odd because the demo was uninstalled and the demo save was deleted. I went to
quit game and start a new game. I got an error.

So I restarted the game and now when I select play from the opening screen all i get is this:

error: #1009:
context: state_Savemenu.create ()
message: error #1009
stack trace:
null

After trying afew times and restarting the pc I decided to uninstall the full game, restart and install again. Same thing as above, all I get is the opening screen click play and then the above error.
Looks like I'm not the only person getting this issue based on a post in the GoG forums.

Steam Version: Game Stuck at "Loading Complete!"

Postby Lorak » Wed Oct 31, 2012 12:41 am

Having an issue getting the game to start.

After I accept the EULA, the game sits at the black "Loading complete!" screen and does not advance. I thought possibly Flash was not installed correctly (I just recently reformatted last night), so I tried uninstalling and re-installing Flash, but I am still having this issue. Does anybody know how to solve this?

Thanks in advance for any help! :D

What's in your savegame directory? Could be that the demo save did not get removed correctly and messed things up.

I've lookeed all over my system and can't find the save game files. Checking other forum posts here, I saw this location given for windows:
C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\DefendersQuest\Local Store\

If thats the right place for the game saves, I dont have that location on my system (win7 64bit)
Easy to find C:\Users\<USERNAME> but AppData and so on is not here. I find nothing in the games .exe folder or anywhere else.

Because it was bought from GoG maybe it is located in a different place? If it helps I downloaded the game thru the GoG gameshelf
Not the GoGdownloader tool.

Thoughts on where the save directory could be?

Not sure where it's at in Win 7. Try searching for any directory named "Local Store" that should contain config.xml, README.TXT, #SharedObjects and SAVE_SLOT_* files

We've found the cause of this bug! It's because we accidentally compiled in a dependency for MSVCR100.dll in the steam version. The newest test build, version 1.0.49, fixes this, I think.

The error happens when the game tries to talk to Steam and the dependent dll is not found. This is why it hangs on the loading screen.

As a temporary workaround, you can download that dll from microsoft and install it, and it should fix your game. However, if anyone who has this bug would like to help me out, DON'T try the workaround, and instead PM if you don't have tester credentials and I will give you the latest fixed build, so we can make sure that it works for people having this bug.

Thanks guys for the responces. Im not using steam for the game, I got it from GoG.com and the MSVCR100.dll issue was not what was causing my trouble.
Just got this message from GoG support and thought I should pass it along:

Hello

Please uninstall the game, go to this folder:
C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Roaming\DefendersQuest
and delete all of it's contents.

Please make sure that you use "Run as Administrator" to install and to start the game (right click on the shortcut or setup file and select "Run as Administrator").

You might need to have show hidden files enabled to see that folder:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/wind ... dden-files

Should have known Win7 would hide all the folders/files. While I was in AppData\Roaming I also deleted the entire Demo folder.
Im guessing, but it seems the demo save info was not auto removed and had a conflict with the GoG version of the game causing this problem.
While only a few people have had trouble, manually deleting the data has fixed this problem for at least one other person on the GoG forums so far.

The game works fine now and is alot of Fun, Thanks to everyone for the help.

I was having this exact problem, so came here to see how to fix it. Thanks to the work done by TheLost1, I figured out how to fix it AND keep my saved game.

Find the directory, delete the demo folder. Go to the regular DefendersQuest folder > Local Store, and see if you have any saved games that are 0 bytes. I had a "SAVE_SLOT_2.dfq" file despite only having used one save slot, so I deleted that and I was then able to resume my old saved game and play as normal!
