NG+ The Royal Records Room

Postby pierre70 » Wed Oct 31, 2012 8:48 am

Try as I might, I just can't do this level on extreme! My characters are all mid-late forties and I have good equipment for them. I've done quite a few of the succeeding levels on extreme but I can't get through the first few waves on this one. I see the reward is only 3 stone skulls, so surely it shouldn't be so hard? I've managed a few of the obsidian skull extreme levels.

I'm running 1.035 download version. Any tips?

Well, I only have an old level 40 save (bad character builds and no upgraded uniques), so I can't beat it right now, but it's nowhere near hopeless. I'd go for four well-equipped archers geared for maximum raw damage, slow end book, maxxed frenzy, pushback and dragonfire, two rangers to apply bleed, Niru with two berzerkers on the side. One healer with inspire hitting all rangers and the exit guard. Place only a handful of armor-breakers and ragers near spawn, trigger dragonfire as soon as all the worms are in....

Managed to get a blue star. The mistake I was making was trying to field too many defenders. Fewer defenders at higher boost levels are definitely key here. Thanks for the pointers!

Heh, I thought you already knew that :)

Success is mostly about squeezing the biggest DPS out of your PSI. That typically means maximising damage (and top gear) for high-boosted defenders, and building skills so that debuffs that are not based on damage are given to low-level ill-equipped defenders. A berzerker worth 25 or 75 PSI can set enemies bleeding 60% just as well as anybody else. A 60 PSI ice mage will be casting ONLY his freeze+chill-enhanced ice ball like there's no tomorrow. And neither needs a good weapon to do so. The guy that has been boosted with 600 PSI and waves a +40 unique sword, that's the person to hit the bleeding frozen enemy with maximum power.

4 archers boosted to the roof pack a tremendous firepower - as long as their targets are stripped of armor and bleeding.
