Healer priorites may still have issues in 0.8.9

Postby Unchained » Tue Feb 21, 2012 2:42 am

Just attempted the "Tunnel Escape" on advanced difficulty. First few waves seemed normal, but on the 2nd wave of dark enemies my healers just let them breeze on by with ether flash and holy light loaded while priority set to "both". Nobody was seriously damaged to where healing should have had any kind of priority..

edit: I've played a few more games now and this is definitely repeatable, healers set to "both" stand around twiddling their thumbs when they could be attacking.

Awesome, well, guess it was a tougher nut to crack then I thought.

So, let's nail some things down:
Healers set to "BOTH" will sometimes NOT attack when targets are available?

Can you confirm:
1) NO friends in range are hurt (ie, the healers are not healing)
2) Attacks are definitely available (they have ether flash, holy light, and/or zeal, and are boosted to at least level 2, 4, or 5?)
3) The healer still does nothing?

Also:
1) Does setting them to "FIGHT" fix the behavior?

I'm just watching Endless in a window. Right trail, a row of archers, above them a healer level 5 with all skills. (no hurt allies in range until somebody manages to touch the rangers 2 rows below.

When he is set to Fight:
He casts everything just fine.

When he is set to Heal:
He casts everything EXCEPT Holy light.

When he is set to Both:
He seems to cast everything, but I've observed him sometimes get stuck while waiting for zeal to reload, despite having enemies in range (and all other skills available, incl both offensive ones). Once that happens, he becomes stuck forever (till prodded by priority change).

If I can add to this I found that on endless the healers will attack the Dark Fighting Revenant's but will not attack the Shadow Worm's when set to both, unless you switch to heal or fight then back to both they will attack that wave but this needs to be repeated for every wave of shadow worm's. If left on fight they will attack the worm's normally and left on heal they will not attack.

Edit: I just checked the healer will not carry on fighting the Shadow worms when switched from fight to both

Windows 7, v0.8.9 Healer bug inconsistent

I noticed this bug too replaying level ‘Traveling to the Hospital’. Odd thing is, Ether flash and Holy light didn't start out working, but then later in the level it did. When I adjusted game speed, Healers began working as expected (but I don't know for sure if this was the actual catalyst or not).

Thanks for the reports, guys. Keep 'em coming, the more specific, the better. I'll try to nail this again for next week's patch.

In the meantime, is the logic at least better than last time?

Back to the grindstone :P

Yes I have found the logic much better thank you, I have not had an idle healer bug yet.

I can report the healers aren't attacking on the Mac 0.8.9 version as well. I had 3 healers with Holy Light enabled, set on Both. They were all one row back from the enemy. No of my guys were injured, so I never had a chance to see if their healing kicked in. However, they completely ignored the Dark that walked by.

Found the glitch. "BOTH" checks for wounded friends, but not rigorously so sometimes it just assumes you have wounded friends, which keeps the attack from firing, but since nobody's actually wounded it doesn't heal either.

Also found a glitch with "HEAL" where he won't attack enemies in range, even if nobody is hurt and he has an attack. Working on a fix for this too.

Found this while testing that other bug.

While a healer is set to "fight" and has "inspire" they'll will use "zeal" even though there is nothing in range (no friends or foes). Only for fight though, tried the others and it doesn't seem to do that.

I can reproduce the BOTH glitch, although it only affects level 3-5 healers, level 2 healers attack just fine, and level 5 healers will cast Zeal but nothing else. Change priority to "ATTACK" and they attack as normal. Also occurs when they're the only character on the map.

Damn peacenik healers...

If you're in the beta test, give version 0.9.0 on the test server a try. If you're not in the beta test, give me a PM and I'll send you an invite.

There are still some bugs in healer priority in the 0.9.02 beta. Is your preference to post them here or in Bugzilla? (I'll write them up in Bugzilla until I hear different)

Bugzilla is the best place, I know I've kind of neglected it for a while, but I'll pop back into it soon and deal with everything that's there.
