freezing associated with video problem?

First off, thanks for a really wonderful game. This is THE hidden gem of the becausewemay sale!

I'm experiencing a problem that I'm hoping somebody can help me with. As soon as I get into DQ and begin playing, I experience brief freezes (~1 second) where all action on the screen stops and the sound stutters dramatically. This happens on and off, and the other night my nvidia driver actually crashed immediately after this freeze. I've not experienced this with any other games (mostly played through Desura or Steam), so I'm 99% sure this problem is confined to DQ. Anybody have any ideas?

System specs (laptop):
OS: Windows 7 64-bit SP1
Processor: Core 2 Duo P8400 @ 2.26 GHz
Memory: 8 GB DDR3 1066
Video Card: Nvidia Geforce 9800M GTS. Drivers are fairly updated--within the past month.

I'd suspect the graphic drivers to start with - try reinstall or an older version.

Try and see if you can reproduce the problem reliably. Check if it happenrs really on it's own, see if it seems to be triggered by any particular ingame action like summoning a defender. Try to monitor memory and CPU usage of the game and see if you see anything of interest there when the stutters happen. Also, as a last straw, what other processes you have running that might possibly interfere? (anti-spywave, antivirus....)

What coyot said, basically. Let us know if the problem persists, and if we can narrow it down to the application.

Something else you might try is making sure you have the latest version of Adobe AIR: http://get.adobe.com/air/

Thanks for the help, guys. I updated my video drivers, and the problem has disappeared. Sorry for not trying the obvious before running to the forums! :D
